I made the mistake of going to this website for help with my programming homework, that was a mistake. Firstly, you are able to freely view questions without an account, but you must make an account to view answers. After making an account, it will not let you view answers or use the website unless you pay a monthly subscription (your choice of $15 or $20). Nowhere on the website does it say "You must pay to use this service." It acts like it's free until after you make an account.
If you want to cancel your account? Good luck. I tried cancelling it immediately after realizing they were trying to get money out of me, and am unable to do so. I get stuck in an endless load screen, error messages saying "Try again later", being bounced from one screen to another, being "timed out" after 5 seconds, and so on. Thankfully, I used an email I only use for questionable websites, so it isn't linked to my banking information or anything of that sort, but good luck cancelling to anybody who HAS given them money. If it's this hard (maybe even impossible) to cancel my FREE account with them, who knows how hard it will be to cancel an account that you linked your banking info to.
Don't use this service/business. There are loads of free options, (Khan Academy being the best, IMO). I would trust Quora or Yahoo Answers sooner than I would trust this site. -10 out of 100.
-Edit: I wish I had looked into this site 20 minutes ago. According to the Better Business Bureau, Chegg.com has had 500 complaints in the last 3 years (likely in relation to refusing to cancel subscriptions), 120 of those in the last 12 months alone. The FTC brought forth a complaint against them in 2022 for data breaches that exposed millions of users' data, including social security numbers, emails, and passwords. They were storing information in the cloud unencrypted. They were apparently also cited for not allowing people to delete accounts and were ordered to do so, but from my experience, they are still not complying with this.
If you've read this novel so far and have made an account with this company -- change all your passwords. If you paid for an account with a credit card and they are refusing to cancel it, dispute it with your CC company, and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Best of luck, all!
