My experience with NAMI is so negative I could write several pages, but I'll try to condense. In my opinion it's an organization to help the "Unfortunate parents" of the mentally ill. NEVER EVER have I heard anyone imply that just maybe the guardians could have a mental illness but refuse to admit it. I have however heard the participants who do have mental illness become the topic of conversation when not present. Gossip is deadly NAMI so why not train your leaders about confidentiality? WHY NOT?
My second gripe is NAMI and their psych meds push. You act like you've never heard psych meds don't work for everyone. God FORBID if you DARE talk about alternative methods in one of these captive sessions to help yourself or others cope because you'll be shut down so fast you'd think you just committed a crime.
I'm seeing myself get too upset to finish. My recommendation to anyone suffering from
Mental illness: stay far away from NAMI. I'd LOVE to see a class action lawsuit filed against these schiesters but I'm willing to bet big pharma would bale them out because EVERYONE knows Big Pharma loves loves loves NAMI 😘😘I'd like to see more "participants" speak up about the abuse they may have suffered by attending one of these brainwashing sessions. I personally despise, loathe and abominate the fact that I was stupid enough to seek help from these very strange people with an agenda of doing anything but helping. More like NAMI is here to comfort the poor poor parents, but in my opinion most definitely not for the "participants". Definitely NOT an advocacy group for the mentally ill as I left with several bruises (but thank God I actually left). If you too had a harmful NAMI experience I'd love to hear from you. Just maybe a class action lawsuit could develop if enough people stepped up to share their horrendous experiences.
