Firstly, as humans we need more compassion. It's my husband's first birthday without his best friend, his mom. We were given a gift card for Texas Roadhouse. We don't usually eat a ton of red meat but this was a special occasion. Service was fine. Our server was attentive as she could be with a needy table across from us. As a former server, I look at what's going on around me. I should mention that I informed the host that it was my husband's birthday. We ate and asked for boxes and a bag. This is where things went sideways. The gift card that we had was cardboard and had been washed by mistake. I had already spoke with customer service and was informed it's a valid card and that all I had to do was give it to the manager and they'll take care of it. Mind you, I used to serve for almost 3 decades. I have had to do this countless times. A manager came to me and repeatedly said that he couldn't scan the barcode. I figured as much BUT the number was still readable. The problem is that the pin number was gone; it got washed away. This manager just stood looking at me and I said, " you could do better. " I don't think that was so aggressive that he would inform the owner. The owner, Jay Burman, came to the table as I was on the phone with customer service and I let him know that. I don't believe that he liked that. It was one of those situations that you only remember moments but when this person decided to make a spectacle of the situation, I lost it. To be a guest, you don't expect a owner to get in your face and berate you and say "that you don't talk to my employees like that!" People were staring and it got to the point that he was insinuating that we were trying to " pull a fast one". I didn't do my worst in the situation, but I think that my comment about doing better didn't give this Jay guy the right to embarrass me. My husband jumped into the conversation and we got it handled in the end. What is the worst part is, they knew it was his birthday and didn't take that into consideration when they reacted the way they did! They ruined our experience. Made a bad memory. They should do better!
