I've been unable to access an old Gmail account and decided that instead of waiting the 3-5 business days for them to get back to me, I would call and get the matter sorted out.
The phone number for aaka was listed as Gmail support, so I called. The nonchalant manner of the "tech" who I'm guessing is from India caught my attention and should have set me off, but it seemed minor enough so I decided to proceed. I allowed him access to my computer and he walked me through the same steps that I had already taken, which got me nowhere, and then he had me open up my Facebook account while he opened up a window that was apparently scanning my computer to find the issue with the email address. It was a basic text window with numbers flowing down,
I figured maybe there was some way to use my Facebook account for verification, but instead he just started looking at my photos and asking personal questions and telling me I'm pretty.
I was starting to get real suspicious when the top of the text window stated that my email and ip address had been hacked. He then told me that I had to pay $100 to fix the issue so that my email could be recovered. I detected BS and hung up on the guy.
I looked away from my computer for a moment, which still had the remote controlling app installed. My picture folder was open and HE WAS GOING THROUGH MY PHOTOS. I abruptly turned my computer off, and now think I'm going to need to have someone clean it for me.
I don't know if this "technician" now has access to my information, or what, but I'm spooked to say the least.
