They are glorified pyramid schemes, there are real regulated investments for your portfolio that have different levels of risk that you can measure. HYIPS are the equivalent of giving some money to a scammer waiting for him/her to give you it back with some profit while the scheme runs. Even regulated/community backed projects are risky, nevermind trusting some stranger on the internet that you never met and probably would not like to!
