In November, I initiated contact with the company to engage in a comprehensive project involving editing, cover design, and publication of my book for $450. We agreed on a deadline of December 15. Regrettably, the editing process, slated for 2 weeks, stretched on for three months, primarily due to the company's consistent delays. Furthermore, the quality of the editing work fell short, necessitating the intervention of another agency to rectify formatting and textual errors. Consequently, the final version submitted by the company failed to meet the necessary standards for publication.
Additionally, crucial components such as the book cover and other essential elements for the printing process were left incomplete. The table of contents did not align with the page numbers, further complicating matters. On January 9, the company proposed an audio book production and distribution on various platforms, mentioning a verbal cost of $200 in addition to the initial $450 agreement. However, to my dismay, my card was charged $1200 instead of the agreed-upon amount.
Following this discrepancy, I promptly sought a cancellation and refund via both phone and email. Despite receiving verbal assurances that the refund would be processed by the end of January, my requests were repeatedly ignored. Over the course of two months, I reached out to the company on five separate occasions, adamantly requesting the return of my funds. Unfortunately, all my efforts were met with unfulfilled promises.
Even after escalating the matter by threatening legal action, the company remained unresponsive to my pleas for a refund. Frustrated by their lack of accountability, I opted to seek assistance from another agency. However, this decision proved to be a setback as the entire process had to restart due to significant errors made by the initial company.
Feeling utterly disheartened by this ordeal, I have now sought the assistance of a legal representative to collect evidence and pursue the necessary actions to hold the company accountable for their egregious conduct.
