I needed to move my car from Florida to Virginia and contacted several vehicle transport companies, Road Runner being among them. For background, what I've learned of this industry is that most of these companies are brokers, meaning that they facilitate the transportation by another company. The driver gets paid a fairly standard rate and the middle man takes the rest off the top. Road Runner was by far the most expensive option I found. Bruce called a couple of times and I told him I was still getting estimates. The last time he called I had finished getting estimates and told him that he was the high bidder. He told me that other companies would bait and switch me, that their prices were not total. He asked how much over Road Runner was, I told him. He said "that car won't get picked up" and hung up. I emailed him, told him that his abrupt termination of our conversation was rude, the least he owed me was a cordial termination to our conversation.
For the record, I contracted with a competitor for less than half the cost of Road Runner. My vehicle was picked up the very next day and delivered the day after that, no fuss, no muss. So much for "that vehicle won't get picked up." Do yourself a favor, save some money, go with a lower bidder. There is no reason to overpay for the same service.
