on 4/9/18Avoid Green Motion. They advertise prices that are considerably lower than competitors, but if you check consumer review websites, you will see that Green Motion too often (a) attempts to force consumers to buy comprehensive insurance by stating that they will not release your pre-paid car (my experience), and (b) charges very high fees for supposed damage/scratches.
DON'T do it. They advertise low and sting you at the counter! Clerks hard sell additional insurance (they get a commission). In Glasgow, Scotland this last August, they tried to get me to pay $800 in insurance to cover a ten day rental that was about $35 a day! Many people have posted about scams where they charged unsuspecting customers for "damages" that were already on the car but the customer may not notice, like a tiny chip in the windshield or a small scratch on the door edge.
I have used them many times, always cheapest, always very new cars, always charming and helpful staff ( Stansted Airport). Every firm will try to get you to upgrade. Buy a 3rd party policy, and just say you have your own cover. Up to now I have never been scammed. I ALWAYS inspect the vehicle before. I drive off. I take photos and make sure I get it inspected and signed off by staff when I take it back.
It looks like people may have different experiences with Green Motion in different locations. However, I've just had a good experience with a 3-day hire from Green Motion at Budapest airport. Yes, I had booked the "Premium+" option (zero damage excess, low deposit), but that was pretty reasonably priced compared to many others. Service and quality of the vehicle was good. No complaints from me.
I cannot stress enough what an unethical company this is. I strongly advise you go elsewhere. They offer such good rates but you end up paying literally hundreds over the original cost. If they don't get you by up selling or insurance issues they charge you for car damage that you didn't do! Stay well away.
They are robbers and scammers, never think to rent a car from green motion, they will charge you thousands of euros, instead buy a new car
NO they are terrible- just got scammed by them with my husband in Iceland. DO NOT rent from this car company - it is a total scam. My husband and I had an amazing trip to Iceland, only to be ruined when we returned our rental car which we only drove from the airport to the hotel and back. Upon return, they claimed that we had dented their car (which was covered in dings and dents and scratches) and made us pay the $2600 deductible for a car that is barely worth that before they would let us leave for the airport. We only rented from this company because it was booked through our credit card company and unfortunately failed to do our research ahead of time. If we had, we would have seen the countless reviews of this occurring all the time. I will be posting on every travel /review site that I can find to warn others so they don't have this same terrible experience. In addition to this, we had to wait forever to get and return the car. Their customer service is horrible. Please don't make the same mistake we did.
I've used them twice. Always good service and value for money. No problems.
I rented a Kia at Heathrow Airport for 5 days. It was rented through Carjet and the price was very reasonable. I took out insurance through Carjet that would cover the 1200 deductible. I took pictures all around the car before I left. When I returned the car, there was no problem (it did have a little existing damage but this had already been recorded). The staff were very friendly and my deposit returned. Be responsible to yourself, and take lots of pictures of the car parked at the rental location before you leave - inside and out including wheels. My rental went without any problems and I do rent a lot of cars during the year. Also, look carefully at the date and the location of any bad reviews.
I have used them at Manchester airport, Liverpool City Centre, Stansted airport, these branches were excellent with no issues. I also used their office at Birmingham Airport, was not up to standard, which was very disorganised and painfully slow getting the car, but I did also witness several customers grievance here.
My experience was good. But I did my homework in advance, having the terms and conditions of the car rental insurance benefits of my credit card I used for booking (to show the maximum they covered) and the fine print from Expedia when I booked it to show the deductible (called excess in the UK) at the rental counter. With these, I was able to avoid the insurance upsell. Since there was no damage to the car, I had no experience with that. They did take a refundable deposit in the amount of the deductible, done in the form of an approval (hold), but not a charge, on the credit card. It has never posted to the credit card, but remains in the 'pending charges' status. Hopefully it will disappear soon. I am still waiting for that two days later.
They easily compensate for low rates by ripping you off in wildly inflated "repair" costs, not giving you a car when you've prepaid, insurance scams, etc. Google them 5 minutes & start your own scam academy!
Rent from someone else, you'll end up paying more when checking in
No, don't fall for the cheap price, you will lose all your money.
