“Buyer Beware”

Kate T.

Earth Weave carpets are sold as containing organic wool, and promising zero VOCs. I don't know if they are lying or their suppliers are lying to them, but this carpet has been anything but a healthy alternative for me. The composition is supposed to be natural (organic) wool, natural latex backing and jute. Right from the first, the custom, non-returnable 7x9 foot Dolomite rug was a major problem and rapidly caused problems with my asthma. I started blaming myself —could I now have an allergy to the natural latex or have I developed a wool allergy? No to both. My Lifekind mattress topper is genuine natural latex, and I have no problems with that. To put it plainly, the Earth Weave carpet reeks, and has since day one. I tried airing out the runner I also got at the same time, and still my asthma kicked off, and required use of my inhaler and antihistamines. I have had this rug wrapped up since last November, and now have it ready to go to Salvation Army. The problem is not with me, but with the Earth Weave rug. I previously had a much larger rug from Colin Campbell with the same components, and there was never an odor from day one (Colin Campbell no longer produces that line of carpet). My husband, who I consider to be olfactory challenged (he agrees), cannot stand to be around the rug either, and I quote "that stinks". So the upshot of all this, is think carefully before you spend your money with this company. I made an expensive mistake.
