Top Critical Review

“A comically bad essay review topped with abysmal customer service.”

Gordon B.
11/4/22

I submitted my college entrance essay and anxiously awaited some constructive edits. While the reviewer's proposed changes left me pretty disappointed, Wordvice's response to my refund request left me livid and compelled me to write this review. My expectations for Wordvice were realistic. I didn't expect a Harvard-level re-write but did anticipate some usable critiques from a competent reviewer. The comments I received were obviously from a non-native US English speaker, and many of the suggestions were inappropriate. One such example was the proposed change of "chopping through wood" to "disintegrating the wood". Last I knew an axe is not a particle-beam weapon capable of vaporizing matter. I started to laugh at how grossly out of context some of the edits were until I remembered I had paid for this service. The only usable comment was correcting the location of a period within a quote that I missed, which I didn't think justified the Wordvice fee. The Wordvice materials indicated that if I was not satisfied I could request a refund, so I did along with examples of the poor-quality editing I received. They should have clarified that you can 'request' a refund all you want, but they aren't going to give you one. Wordvice rebuffed my request, I asked them to reconsider, and they just replied by citing the fine print in their contract about how they don't guarantee results.

Tip for consumers:
You aren't getting a refund, no matter how bad their editor is.
