Immediately after placing my order, I called to make a simple request; that the one item of meat be omitted from the gift basket because the grieving family who were to receive this sympathy gift basket of snacks and chocolates are vegetarians. The offices were not open, but the outgoing message said to leave a message - so I did. I spent nearly $100 on a basket that was perfect for the family, as a show of sympathy from friends, which is why it was chosen. Except for the one (oddly-included) sausage roll.
In any event, I followed up with an email early the next morning to ensure that the message was received before shipping. I did receive a return call late in afternoon with the information that I couldn't "customize" any gift baskets. I was honestly, quite angry at this as I wasn't asking for customization; I was merely asking that whoever physically creates these baskets, simply reach in and take out the sausage roll. I didn't even care of it was replaced with anything, I just didn't' want the item to be included out of respect to the dietary needs of the family.
I was then told that the item had already shipped and that the only thing they could do was "recall" it from Fed Ex. The family is only staying together during their grieving period for a few days, so no, I didn't want it recalled - I wanted it delivered.
But then I discovered via the UPS tracking number that GGB provided, that I was misled. In the early evening - about 2.5 hours since I spoke with the representative that it's status as "still being prepared"!
Why on earth couldn't Gourmet Gift Baskets do the simple favor of just removing this single item before wrapping and shipping? I wasn't asking for something extraordinary. I was very dissatisfied with this lack of sentiment and for being misled by being told that the item had already shipped.
