I have a free membership account. Would I still be charge a monthly fee of $34.95?

Be sure and call there customer service under Contact Us to confirm what you are liable for. They can answer your question definitively.

Whatever terms you signed up under. If you have a free membership account then you have a free membership account. Can you access content? If yes, then you truly have a free membership account.
