Do not rent from this company! They do prepaid bookings with no intent of filling their commitment to rentals. They will not show up for the car delivery at the airport. You will spend hours tracking them down only to find out you do not have a car. Trying to get a refund to a credit card is impossible. They want your banking information, which is what I would expect is the next step in corrupt process.

If I could give America Car Rental negative stars, I would. Renting a vehicle from America Car Rental was by far the worst rental experience I have ever had. We had the option to purchase outside insurance and then present it at the America counter for coverage. The representative told us that our previously purchased insurance could not be processed through their system due to our credit card company declining the transaction. We were then told the only way we could gain access to our vehicle would be by paying for the insurance offered by America Rental Car directly. The entire operation felt like a scam, so at this point we contacted our credit card company to confirm that they were in fact declining the incoming charge from America Car Rental, which they confirmed they were not. We were essentially forced into purchasing an insurance plan through America Car Rental. After talking with other customers at the rental desk, each confirmed that they were dealing with the same situation of being told their previously purchased insurance plan would not be honored. After we were forced into purchasing the insurance plan, we were walked over to another service desk where we were offered a promotion through Dreams Tulum which ironically was the same dollar amount of what we just paid for the insurance through America Car Rental. We were undermined and lied to throughout the entire process. America Car Rental is the most unprofessional, skeezy, conniving company I have ever done business with. Do not waste your time or money with this company.

I made on online car reservation with EconomyBookings.com in advance of my trip to Cancun. In order to avoid problems with insurance coverage, I purchased "Full Coverage" insurance at the time of booking. When I arrived at the America Car Rental desk, I was immediately told that they did not recognize the "Full Coverage" policy and that I would need to purchase additional insurance for $600usd for my 14-day rental. After 2 hours of arguing the point, America Car Rental reduced the price to $325usd. They had me over the barrel. I had to either pay for their insurance or walk away from my rental with no refund and having to find another car from another rental. This is a completely unsatisfactory experience. I encourage anyone who is planning to use this rental agency to not do that. This is the second time I used them so shame on me for going back. Based on this awful experience, I will never use them again. Period.

DO NOT rent from this company! They stole $225 from me and they will steal from you. Here's how they did it:

I rented a car from them in Cancun and drove to Merida. While I was in Merida I had a flat tire. I called their 24 hour roadside assistance line 15 times and left five messages. I received no response so this "help" line is completely worthless.

I drove to the America car rental office at the Merida airport to ask for their help. They said I should follow them to a local tire sales company and they arranged for a new tire to be put on for $65.

When I returned the car at the end of my vacation, they said a front tire was ruined and wanted to charge me $225 to replace it. I said I had already replaced a back tire for $65 so why should the front tire replacement cost $225?

They said that the new back tire was the wrong type and that I would need to replace that tire also for an additional $225!

I complained that it was their staff that replaced that tire but it made no difference because they stole the additional $225 from me.

This story may sound incredible, but it's true!

Do not rent from this company!

To everybody renting car in Mexico!

In December 2022 we have rented car in AMERICA RENTAL CAR in Playa del Carmen in Mexico. Coming back from our trip around Yucatan, we stopped for shopping in Playa del Carmen. When we returned it occurred that our car has been robbed. Our two big bags which were in locked car trunk have been stolen.
Thieves didn't break any windows, they did not damage the locks. It may suggest that the thieves had additional key.
In the police station, we were informed that almost identical incidents with other cars have happened many times before and that the police are investigating these particular cases. They are sure that they cooperate with a criminal group.
Be careful and steer clear of America Car Rental!

America Car Rental wanted to sell me their insurance (4 times more money than the actual rental fee) they kept arguing it was my fault not to be able to provide with the appropriate proof of insurance which is a ridiculous hard copy letter from my credit card provider, confirming the cards CDW is valid in the whole Country. Which in 2018 is bunkers!
I show them the electronic copy and they said is not enough. This company absolutely won't work with American Express coverage and they kept arguing that if you don't have the letter you absolutely need to buy the insurance they are selling you.

Worst costumer service of the industry, waiting periods are horrible as well

My opinion about Rentalcars and America Car Rental.

On an unfortunate day for me, on my trip to Mexico, I decided to use the

Services of the intermediary Rentalcars and the rental company America Car

Please note, this review is for the location in LAS AMERICAS -- DOMINICAN REPUBLIC by SDQ AIRPORT. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Every review on here that states that this company is a scam is 100% true. My boyfriend and I made a reservation for an SUV to be picked up at the terminal in the Dominican Republic-- airport SDQ. While the website states that this company is inside the airport, the car rental location is actually located outside of the airport, about a 10 min drive. When we arrived at SDQ, we called the company and waited to be picked up by a driver who would take us to the car rental location. We thought all would go smoothly considering that we had paid in full to avoid any additional transactions. Upon arrival to the car rental location, we were asked to pay additional charges. There was no mention of additional charges on the website, nor the confirmation email. In fact, their website clearly says that insurance is included. When we explained this to the man behind the counter, he didn't care. We showed him the confirmation email in both English and Spanish, but this didn't mean anything to him. The man behind the counter (whose name I unfortunately did not obtain) did not even know how to use his own system to look up our reservation. He had to call "the owner" whose name is MANUEL. Manuel tried to explain to us that many other customers are also caught off guard with additional charges because there is no mention of this on their website. We told them we did not want to proceed with the reservation as it is unfair/illegal to make up policies on the spot without having them in writing. Right as we were walking out the man behind the counter maliciously said "you guys were never here, you won't get your refund back, you already paid in full." We were livid and disgusted at the lack customer service and called their customer service line immediately. A customer service representative by the name of PEDRO, was also not helpful. He reiterated over and over that we could not get a refund back (even though we never even saw the SUV we had paid for). We spent more than 2 hours on the phone trying to get this all sorted, but this company pulls policies out of thin air and will not work with you/nor meet you half way even after having spent your hard earned money. PLEASE save yourself a headache and being robbed and go spend a little more money on a car rental company who has real policies and provides actual customer service. We will never use nor recommend this car rental company.

Mientras la pagina de internet decía que la compañía esta adentro del aeropuerto, cuando llegamos aprendimos que la compañía está como a 10 minutos del aeropuerto. Llamamos al número que estaba en la confirmación y nos dijeron que esperáramos que nos iban a recojer y a llevarnos a buscar el carro. Hicimos una reservación para un carro grande y la pagamos en completo. Cuando llegamos a donde supuestamente íbamos a recojer el carro, querían cobrarnos más. Le explicamos que el correo electrónico de confirmación y la página de internet no indicaban que habían cargos adicionales. El señor detrás de la recepción llamo a su jefe y su jefe admitió que a muchas persona le pasa lo mismo. Después de admitir esto, nisiquiera hicieron el intento de ayudarnos con la situación. Después de tantas inconsistencias, decidimos cancelar la reservación. Llamamos al número de servicio al cliente, y tampoco nos ayudaron. Duramos dos horas en el teléfono con esta compañía. Nos robaron el dinero y nisiquiera vimos el carro por el cual pagamos. Porfavor ahórrese un dolor de cabeza y ser robado, y valla y pague un poquito más dinero en una compañía reconocida, que tenga pólizas clara de cancelación y reembolso, y que ponga al cliente de primero. El nombre de uno de los jefes es MANUEL, y no hizo el intento de ayudarnos. No recomiendo esta compañía.
