“Terrible customer service and flawed products”

Mark J.
6/2/23

I ordered a new Springfield XDM Elite from Guns.com, but the gun I received was clearly used and damaged. The finish had a huge scrape mark on the barrel and looked really bad. I contacted their customer service multiple times but they refused to do anything and wouldn't allow me to return it. They completely ignore their published returns policy. What a scam and unethical company! Avoid this company.

I purchased a used uncertified Savage Arms MSR 10 - I could see a little muzzle corrosion in picture online. When the gun arrived, I went to the FFL Dealer Fred's Outdoors to pick the gun up. There I noticed rusted bolts and was told by the FFL Dealers staff that no magazine came in the box with the gun. As we continued the inspection we pulled back the side charging handle assembly and noticed that the hook portion was broken off. I immediately called guns.com and spoke with Gina - I was asked to email pictures, which I did. I refused to take transfer of the gun because of the broken peice (mechanical defect) and requested a full refund. Guns.com position is even though the gun clearly has a broken peice as long as it shoots they are fine with that. Savage Arms the manufacturer designed that hook there for a reason. Guns.com wants to charge me for original shipping, $30.00 return shipping and a 15% restocking fee. I filed an complaint with the BBB and was told all I had to do was to apply a little gum cleaner to dissolve the rust - the gun should have never been sent out in that condition especially having a mechanical defect.

Purchased a "New" Ruger.357 which clearly states on both Guns.com and Ruger.com as having a lo-mount rear sight. Arrived at FFL dealer to find that sight is not installed, yet the notch is cut into the revolver. First thing I do is call Guns.com to explain the situation. I am told, as the firearm is new, I need to deal with the manufacturer as there are no refunds or returns on new guns. Here are my concerns: 1) Ruger manufactured a firearm and failed to complete the assembly at 100%, yet allowed this to be shipped and sold to a firearms dealer. This speaks to Ruger's quality control in not
Only the manufacture but also the final inspection and both fail in my book. 2) Guns.com took this firearm into inventory with obvious missing items and did not contact Ruger regarding it. Then sold this item to a consumer as a new item. This also speaks to their quality control. 3) The firearm was shipped from TX to Guns.com HQ in MN for transfer to my FFL dealer in NM. Again I was told the firearm would be inspected in MN before being shipped to NM and again during inspection the obvious omission of a part was ignored. Both of these companies have failed in delivering a product advertised as new. It goes without saying, if I was in any gun store in the US and saw this revolver in a display case for sale while missing a sight that it is supposed to have, I would not make this purchase. It should not be on the consumer to receive a product which has supposedly gone through quality control and have to deal with a manufacturer with such a glaring flaw.

Jeff H. – Guns Rep

Hello Anil,

I'm sorry about your frustration with us. We'd like to learn more about what happened, specifically with your order. Please contact us by phone or email: https://www.guns.com/contact. If a firearm had a tracking number it should not have been cancelled by us, we would definitely want to hear more about this.

In general, orders can sometimes be cancelled if they are coming from one of our independent FFL dealers that no longer have the firearm available to fulfill. If it is still in stock on the website it is usually from another dealer at the next lowest available price. If it was a great deal on a firearm, it is very likely that it was purchased by someone in-store or sold out on Guns.com. In that rare instance we are unable to fulfill your order.

Purchased a 20ga shotgun in "very good" condition, received a 12ga shotgun in good condition with 2 missing parts. I'll keep the gun, as I gave it some TLC, and enjoy working on guns, but it'll be my last purchase from them. Forget about selling to them, they'll lowball you like a pawn shop.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Horrible customer service

Pistol sold & shipped by a 'fulfillment dealer' of Guns.com so all Guns.com did was get my money & had no other involvement in the transaction. This was my first purchase from Guns.com. The pistol (S&W 5906) arrived in the completely wrong box, the box was for a S&W M&P 40 with the label on the side of the box having the serial number, SKU, etc clearly denoting a M&P 40. The sale page for the 5906 on the Guns.com site that listed multiple pictures of the pistol, including one of it laying in the open blue plastic S&W box, had no statement at all regarding this pistol being sold with the wrong box. The pic of it laying within the open box lead the customer to believe that the box shown was in fact assigned to the pistol being sold. There was also no statement in any of the verbiage of the ad that the pistol would arrive in the incorrect box. This discrepancy was noticed by me at my receiving FFL. The manual & sealed fired cartridge was also for a M&P 40, nothing for the 5906. I took delivery, mistakenly assuming that Guns.com would assist me in locating the assigned 5906 box & swap out this incorrect box for the proper one. I began calling Guns.cm the next morning, alerting the customer service agent of the issue. He assured me that this unusual mistake would be quickly addressed & rectified by the Guns.com customer care team. After not hearing back from anyone at the customer care team for 2 days, I again called to inquire as to the status of my issue. This began a cycle of over a week of repeated phone calls by me & assurances by Guns.com that the issue would be resolved, but no resolution was ever produced. I finally asked for a supervisor (Garrett) who in short, gave me nothing but excuses & a song & dance about how this really was not their responsibility & even had the audacity to proclaim that there was no statement within the original sale ad that the customer was in fact going to receive that actual box assigned to any given pistol & he inferred that my expectation that I would receive the assigned box was unreasonable. In the end, there was nothing that he could do for me other than let the customer care team take my complaint in the order that it was received & he had no idea when they might get to my issue. God forbid he undertake my repeated requests that he simply put me on hold, call the dealer that had possession of the 5906 & sent it to me & see if he could resolve the issue right then & there, oh no...that was clearly too great of a task for him to accomplish. Seriously? What a joke this guy is as a supervisor & what a joke the people that are tasked with assisting the Guns.com customers are. I spent almost a thousand dollars on a used gun that Guns.com no doubt made a substantial profit on & the only customer service that I received, for a problem that they were responsible for as the selling representative, was crap. I'll never spend another dime with Guns.com & have told all of my shooting league members & other shooting buddies about the horrible customer service I received. As of 8/25/23, no contact ever received from the Guns.com 'customer care team' & I don't expect that I ever will hear from them. Good job, Guns.com, on losing a customer after a single transaction.

You had better like what you bought!

Good stock and quick delivery - 5 STAR

BUT, if you have an issue EVEN if you have not taken possession- the FFL still has it - they will demand $30 shipping AND a 15% restocking fee.

No wiggle room, NO customer support!

My case.
I bought a Browning X-Bolt and a Springfield 2020.22 Classic in AAA walnut.
The Browning is great.
The wood on the Springfield 2020 would barely make AA and the FFL gun shop agreed. I called to return it and have it replaced before taking possession. After a 55min wait on hold I was told to take it up w Springfield or return it w shipping fee AND a restocking fee!

Bad business model and VERY POOR service in my opinion.

I WILL NOT use Guns.com again if they are the only dealer to have what I want.
