“Lulu Press is super!”

I've been self-publishing through Lulu since 2008, and have had good experiences. The support forum has always been helpful, I like the quality of the books, and have always been paid on time. Of the numerous books I've ordered (written by other people), there was only one time I was sent the wrong book, and Lulu replaced it with the correct book as soon as I informed them of the error. I haven't had any experience with any other self-publishing companies/sites, but am happy with Lulu Press.

Worst experience ever. I paid $1999 and my manuscript sat for over TWO months in "Step 1 - Content Evaluation," before some dude named Eugene Hopkins called me and told me that he "didn't think my book was a good fit for Lulu Press" and basically told me to pound sand. WHAT?! They wasted over TWO MONTHS of valuable time just to tell me they didn't want to work with me. Who does that? I ended up using Amazon KDP and getting the same job done in mere days (less than a week) while saving a lot of money. Lulu is an awful company. Run!

I used Lulu to publish my book. After several months and multiple updates, the final version was approved for sale to the public. When I visited Amazon, I discovered that somehow an early version had already been distributed by Lulu to third party seller websites. Strangely, the interior content version was correct, but the front and back book covers were from a much early version and totally incorrect - wrong subtitle, pricing, and images. Lulu has been contacted multiple times by me requesting they provide third party sellers with the correct front and back covers, but third party sellers are still using the old version of the front and back cover on their websites and people I know who ordered the book are receiving the wrong covers. This has been a disaster.

Ever get a product that ells you to see the manual when there's an error or a feature that should be easy to access only to find out the manual is badly translated in French from German? Using this site is like that if the French version told you to go find the version of the manual that was translated into German from Japanese.

To create a product, click on the page that has the product you want, comic book, calendar, book, etc. Now click on the icon to choose it again because the site thinks you're a moron. Now enter your file and get a message it's the wrong DPI. Try again, get a vague message about ink, check the FAQ, find nothing, use the search feature, find nothing, ask the live chat for help, find it would be more helpful to ask your pet goldfish because they assume you have a completely different problem than what you describe in detail, ask for an e-mail for someone who knows about the issue, wait, find out they never told anyone to e-mail you, find out the problem, find a new problem, be told you're an idiot and that you should have spent two hours hunting down the answers like trying to find the bastard child of Waldo and Carmen Sandiego, encounter a third problem, complain again, get no help, scream, throw your computer in a lake out of frustration, go to a local print shop and get the product in a few days.

That's how to work lulu.com's intuitive and easy site.

This website is Very Good for authors who are starting their self Publishing journey. It gives them multiple book formats (both printed and ebooks) and many channels to avail their books on.
I love it and always use it.
Cheers

Ive published several works thru lulu... i removed the frst two works from sale or distribution over a decage ago (one 10 years ago and one 15 years ago) i recently discovered that from a buyer side BOTH are still available but from my end the books were "permanantly removed" way back then! This means they have been selling my works for 10 and 15 years giving me NO RECORD of those sales and paying no revenue... TO THIS DAY the works can be found on their site... and to this day they remain non existent from my end when i log in as an author! I dont know where to turn to have this resolved... i emailed them MANY times asking them to please discuss with me what happened and possible resolutions... i did not reveal my identity or the book titles until they agreed to discuss resolution so they wouldnt simply remove the books and pretend it never happened... i imagine it happens A LOT since my 2 books were 5 years apart from one another! They may be selling ALL KINDS OF WORKS without author knowledge... i dont have money for a lawyer... if you can PLEASE HELP! Also... they changed the format of my coloring book and now print on two sides of each page and EVERY PAGE has TERRIBLE streaks... its so bad ive stopped selling the coloring books and have had to refund people who purchased them before i knew the changes to them had been made... HELP PLEASE IF YOU CAN!

I have ordered books several times through lulu.com. Every time I did, I was very impressed with the results! The books arrived beautiful and professional looking. Self publishing was a breeze. The website contains many useful tools - such as a cover and calendar creator. Books are available in many different sizes and styles, for very reasonable prices! I am also impressed with the care of the team at Lulu.com. When there were issues with the formatting of my hardcover book, they contacted me with the newly fixed file, ready to upload and order. They also expedited my order due to a problem with the printers, and thanks to lulu.com I received my book (which was a gift) just in time for Christmas! I highly recommend lulu.com to any one, young and old, looking to self publish their book online and/or create professional and appealing books. Good job LULU!

Tip for consumers:
A tip is to remove any hyperlinks from documents and use Adobe Distiller to flatten pdf's before ordering and/or publishing.

I've used Lulu a good number of times. The quality of their ordinary paperback books is good, although avoid photobooks. I've not tried the fancy books, nor their additional services. I've had two serious problems, once with book quality and once with a package getting lost. In both cases they replaced the consignments. I'm happy to recommend them.

@Luludotcom Cancelled my account, cancelled all my orders, without warning, without giving me the chance to correct the mistake, because of a defect in their user interface. Wondering if this is a scam?

I've published a couple of books with Lulu and I've been very satisfied.

The process of making sure the book format and paging and cover dimensions are OK are labourous if done on your own, but worth the effort. Their site contains more than enough technical information, though this might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The books were printed perfectly - and one of the books was a very special print, which required that the paging was backwards, something which was accommodated by Lulu flawlessly (whereas with Amazon's CreateSpace it was impossible to do it.)

Haven't had to deal with their customer service - everything I ordered arrived fine. The only minor thing was that, in three books (out of an order of 20) had the cover misaligned slightly, so the spine text was a bit off. But that is understandable, as the book was just on the threshold (just over 100 pages) of what is acceptable by lulu for text on the spine.

I self published my book with lulu.com so i ordered a proof copy to see how it looks like printed. I have been waiting for a month and a half. I have email lulu four time and never got a response. They don't even have a phone number because they are a "web based company". They are totally unresponsive. I didn't lose alot of money but the idea that somebody ripped me off has me upset. Do not go with lulu.com. Alot of people are pissed their forums are filled with complaints. They are a total rip off!

I ordered an art book from them, I received it really fast and the package was impressive to protect the book.
I expected more of the book but I think it was the author's choice when he created it.

I'd really love to give Lulu a good review. I really would, but I can't. I ordered a first copy of my book from both Blurb and Lulu to compare the quality, and Blurb's book came in within a couple of weeks. Lulu's never did. A month later I contacted support, and I was pleased with their quick response and promise to send me another copy free of charge. That copy took over a month and they also sent a black and white version for whatever reason. 1 point for Blurb, 1/4 of the time.
I loved the quality of Lulu, a little more than Blurb at that. I ordered another book and AGAIN a month later nothing. Same story, contacted them again and they supposedly sent another. I ordered this second book on Feb. 15, and it is now the 28th of April and nothing. I've really wanted to get this book up and running, and I would really love to do this through Lulu, but they're just not delivering (literally).

I had ordered Sumerian-English dictionaries. What I saw, when I pulled the books out of the shipping box, was what you see attached below: Aramaic-English. I didn't realize that this was an advert, and the company had covered up the cover page of my books, while allowing me to first see the wrong product, as I thought.

I've provided them feedback. I will eventually look at the back of the book, BUT I need to see immediately that I have the correct product.

When I opted to try self-publishing a script I chose Lulu Press. I don't regret the decision. From their publishing guidelines, I learnt that the whole process depended on how you prepared your manuscript-getting the basics right. Truely, the rest of the processed went through, smoothly, for me!
Whenever I queries they were answered and follow ups done as well. I found Lulu Press to be a friendly press, even the quality of the printed copies was super!
